This is a P.S. regarding using alcohol in the box of the shoe to conform it to your foot – do NOT stand on point while the box is wet and soft, just squeeze the box around your toes to mold it to fit your foot-take your foot out and let the shoes dry completely before using them for dancing.

Also, to keep the heel from slipping off, I sewed a loop of elastic to the heel and ran the ribbons through it from both sides (rather than sewing a band of elastic across the top of the arch of my foot.) Worked great

The way I “broke in” my toe shoes was to fill the toe box with alcohol and let it soften the shellac that makes the box stiff – I would then dump out the alcohol and put my foot in my toe shoes while they were still wet and conform the shoe to my toes in a good pointe position. I then carefully removed my foot so I wouldn’t change the shape and set them to dry where they were not disturbed.

I just bought a new pair of pointe shoes and they’re really stiff and hard. Any tips on how to soften them?

my ballet teacher tells us we can’t dance on pointe before we can stand in fifth position properly, why not? I really want to dance on pointe and I’m so jealous when I watch all these videos on youtube!

Hi im 12 years old and cant wait to get on pointe my teacher said I might be able to go on rthem after my exam which is tommorrow also my friend went on pointe at 11 I think it is to young.

to the people who are on pointe without teahcer permittion…
this is very very bad, teacher know when to put you on! if she hasn’t put you on yet, its not because your a terribe dancer, its because you are not strong enough or you feet havnen’t developed.
In my opinion, i don’t recommend you going on pointe under the age of 12, no offence, but people have different strenths and feet.
But the point is don’t go on pointe with out teachers promition

dancedistrib0918 | January 8, 2010 at 8:34 am
ive been dancing for almost 14 years now and ive been on pointe shoes since i was 11 years old. to all the ladies out there wanting to go on pointe shoes, wait untill your teacher says you’re ready to dance in them, otherwise you could ruin your knees and feet, and your ankles especially. if you do go on pointes too early and get hurt, you might never be able dance again. thats what happened to my friend and she still regrets it to this very day.
